Hey Admins, I spent hours scouring the Salesforce Winter ’20 release notes, so you don’t have to! Here are the topics Admins should care about!

The release date for Winter ’20 in the sandbox is expected September 6th and in your instances around October 11th. The deadline to take advantage of the sandbox preview is September 5th. Remember to refresh your sandboxes before the 5th!

The Lightning Experience is permanently enabled. What does that mean to you? Starting in October, users will see the ‘Turn on the Lightning Experience’ option if Lighting Experience permissions are enabled. If you haven’t turned on Lightning Experience permission or switched yet, you still have time! There are guidance tools to support this journey. For information, click on this handy FAQ.

Finally! Some needed upgrades to the Lightning experience like access to the Recycle Bin, Printable Views, and more control over Help Menu resources.

I can’t wait to try Theme and Topics Filters, a new way to organize data by records and list views. By adding a topic, you can view those records in one list. Click on the topic to pull the Topics detail page. From the related tab you’ll see the related records. Think hashtags but organized!

Salesforce Surveys, used internally and in Communities, can be customized to gather the data you need to share insights with your organization. Insight into support cases, boosting marketing campaigns, and automation based on defined criteria are a few of the benefits! Sent by links and email, you are able to capture responses from Leads, Contacts, and members of your org. Consider adding topics to organize and adding expiration dates to complete the life cycle.

Reports & Dashboard updates are always exciting! Row level formulas (generally available) are a feature that we all need. Salesforce gives the example of writing a row level formula on closed Opportunities to see how long each Opportunity took to close. Territory details are available on Activity reports, User IDs support Account team reporting, and Long Text Field Wrapping is available in this release (Yeah!).

Hopefully, you’ve stopped using Notes and Attachments and moved to Notes and Files. If not, here is the Trailhead that explains why you should make that move. In Winter ’20, Files are adding enhanced features like Sharing permissions for editing files and Deleting from a record without removing it from related records. Files in Communities now have record level access to the file without writing a trigger to make them available.

Approvals have increased limits, limits have been raised on installed Custom Objects, and you have the ability to see where a Field is used.

Conversational Search (Beta) requires Einstein Search permission set licenses. This AI allows instant report creation by typing the name of the object along with terms like “My”, “This week”, or “New” into Search. For example, type “My closed Opportunities this week” to see a list of results meeting that criteria.

Ready to try some of these features? Spin up a Scratch Org, a dedicated and configurable environment that you can quickly create as your own personal development environment. For an extensive list of new features for Scratch Orgs click here.

Last but not least, lots of continued momentum in the Industry Clouds! In case you haven’t heard, Salesforce released the following to support specific industry needs:

Manufacturing Cloud
Consumer Goods Cloud
Financial Services Cloud
Health Cloud
