8 signs that outdated IT systems are killing your business

CIO

At a time when IT budgets are increasingly constrained, many CIOs are tempted to squeeze extra life out of systems that should have been put out to pasture years ago. For such CIOs, Dan Sundt , workday human capital alliance lead at Deloitte, offers this simple advice: think twice. “If you’re investing money in an IT system that’s limping along on a version that’s barely being supported by the solution vendor, it’s a good sign that the system might be killing your business,” Sundt says.

Salesforce study warns against rushing LLMs into CRM workflows without guardrails

CIO

A new benchmark study from Salesforce AI Research has revealed significant gaps in how large language models (LLMs) handle real-world customer relationship management (CRM) tasks. Testing nine state-of-the-art models, including GPT-4o and Gemini 2.5 Pro across 4,280 queries, researchers found agents achieved a 58% success rate in single-step tasks such as retrieving records, but dropped to just 35% in multi-step workflows like processing refunds.

Why leaderboards fall short in measuring AI model value

CIO

Leaderboards are a widely accepted method for comparing the performance of AI models. Typically built around standardized tasks and publicly available datasets, they provide an easily digestible view of how various models stack up against one another. While they do offer some insights, leaderboards actually aren’t the best metric for determining a model’s effectiveness in the real world.

CIO

CIO

Across the industry, there’s great diversity in the way people integrate service-level objectives (SLOs) into their workflows. Some companies use the same SLOs to alert engineers of system problems and report the health of the system to executives. Others tailor their SLOs for the different use cases. We’ve even met some organizations that only use SLOs for their engineering organization and hand-roll higher-level reporting, while others use SLOs with no alerting enabled at all.
