Those of us developing software don’t need to be told what a big impact it’s had on humanity this century. I’ve long maintained that this places a serious responsibility on our profession. Whether asked to or not, we have a duty to ensure our systems don’t degrade our society. But in the tumult of so many software projects, it can be difficult to step back and understand the implications of our work.

Andreessen Horowitz and Coinbase Ventures have minted a new unicorn in India: CoinSwitch Kuber. The two firms have co-led a $260 million investment in the Bangalore-based cryptocurrency trading startup, valuing the young firm at $1.9 billion, they said on Tuesday. This is a16z’s first investment in India. TechCrunch reported last month — twice — that the two firms were in talks to back the Indian startup and had proposed a valuation of $1.9 billion.

Copper Banking , a digital banking service aimed at teens, announced today it has raised a total of $13.3 million in seed funding. PSL Ventures , an arm of Pioneer Square Labs , led a $4.3 million raise for Seattle-based Copper last year and an additional $9 million this year.
