Palo Alto Networks has been recognized as the sole Leader in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Single-Vendor SASE.

Today, Palo Alto Networks® was recognized as the only Leader in the inaugural 2023 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Single-Vendor SASE. We were also positioned highest and furthest in both the ability to execute and completeness of vision. We believe this is an extraordinary achievement and testament to the role we have played in making the vision of SASE a reality for our customers.

SASE Is the Way Forward

As organizations worldwide adopt cloud and hybrid work at an unprecedented pace, SASE has become a critical component of their transformation efforts. SASE is the convergence of software-defined wide-area networking (SD-WAN) and security delivered as a massively distributed cloud service. Our customers tell us they are looking to consolidate these capabilities into a unified solution. In fact, according to the Gartner 2022 Roadmap for SASE Convergence report, by 2025, 80% of enterprises will have adopted a strategy to unify web, cloud services and private application access using a SASE and SSE architecture, up from 20% in 2021.

As organizations accelerate their adoption of SASE, the key question emerging is around the right approach for effective implementation. Traditionally companies have relied on a mix-and-match approach with point products from multiple vendors. At Palo Alto Networks, we strongly believe a unified, single-vendor approach is the best way for organizations to optimize their security and operational outcomes.

Gartner defines single-vendor SASE offerings as those that deliver multiple converged network and security as a service capabilities, such as software-defined WAN (SD-WAN), secure web gateway (SWG), cloud access security broker (CASB), network firewalling and Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA). These offerings use a cloud-centric architecture and are delivered by one vendor. Palo Alto Networks, we believe, is uniquely positioned in this space, delivering Prisma® SASE as a unified solution with these capabilities, along with Autonomous Digital Experience Management (ADEM) that provides observability and AIOps.

Single Vendor SASE vs. Mix-and-Match SASE

There are three major benefits of single vendor SASE that a mix-and-match approach cannot deliver:

  • First, you get better security outcomes with an integrated approach across all users, applications and connected devices. You are able to protect the IoT devices in the branch [such as light sensors, temperature sensors, audio-video (AV) equipment, printers, etc.] with the integration between Prisma SD-WAN and Prisma Access. By contrast, with a mix-and-match approach you need additional point products to secure IoT devices.
  • Second, unified SASE delivers the best user experience as you can manage performance end-to-end across security and SD-WAN. In a mix-and-match environment, you lose SD-WAN traffic management capabilities adversely impacting user experience.
  • Third, you simplify your operational model with unified management, policies and a single data lake. With AI-powered ADEM, you are able to proactively detect issues and automate problem resolution to deliver the highest availability with five nines. By contrast, without an integrated data lake across SD-WAN and SASE, any AI/ML techniques are limited in scope and cannot provide end-to-end automation.

Palo Alto Networks: The Only Leader in Single-Vendor SASE

Our customers are able to leverage a converged SASE architecture today, delivering real innovations for their customers. For example, Westfield, one of the leading mall operators in North America, has adopted Prisma SASE to deliver a secure experience for its retail partners and 400 million customers. Ken Ogami, senior vice president and CIO U.S., Westfield North America, said, “Prisma SASE with Zero Trust gave us the ability to secure our users regardless of their status, what device they’re using, or where they’re working from.”

In today’s hyperdigital and cloud-first world, Prisma SASE’s unified approach to cloud-delivered security, networking and management empowers organizations to stay a step ahead of the constantly evolving threat landscape with the power of AI.
