Dell and Microsoft Deliver for the Data Center with Windows Server 2019

Dell PowerEdge R740xd running Windows Server 2016 and SQL Server 2017 processed 6.7 times as many orders per minute and lowered average application latencies by 88 percent.[i]

Promising seamless integration on-premise, in the cloud and everywhere in between, the new Windows Server 2019 is designed to support you at every stage in your transformation journey. Dell is excited to partner with Microsoft on the announcement of Windows Server 2019, with a full-range of proven solutions.

Enhanced agility and performance for on-premise solutions

Dell and Microsoft have partnered to deliver Windows Server 2019 as a factory installed option on PowerEdge servers. In support of Microsoft’s announcement, Dell is announcing certification on six PowerEdge server platforms. Over the next few months, Dell will complete certification for all currently shipping PowerEdge servers (both 13th and 14th generation).

If you’ve been waiting to modernize your IT infrastructure, now is the time. With Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 end-of-life on the horizon[ii], modernizing your infrastructure will not only save costs but it will enhance security and increase performance. In recent testing by Principled Technologies, a Dell PowerEdge R740xd running Windows Server 2016 and SQL Server 2017 processed 6.7 times as many orders per minute and lowered average application latencies by 88 percent.[iii]

Enhanced performance is only one benefit of infrastructure modernization. Flexibility is also important. With Dell, you have options. When you purchase Windows Server 2019 as a factory installed option on PowerEdge servers, you can be assured that the OS and drivers have been pre-tested and optimized for current workloads and will be ready when you move to the cloud. Factory installed software can also enable faster, easier deployment. Learn more about the benefits of factory installed software from this report: Spend less time, effort and money by choosing a Dell server with pre-installed Microsoft software.

When you purchase a PowerEdge server that has been certified for Windows Server 2019, you can be assured that it is eligible for end-to-end Dell service. Start with ProDeploy or ProDeploy Plus services, which provide expert setup of server, operating system, virtualization and storage. After deployment, your ProSupport or ProSupport Plus server contract provides full support for server and server OS, when Windows Server 2019 is purchased as a factory installed option. When Windows Server 2019 is installed on certified Dell PowerEdge platforms through a Microsoft Volume Licensing agreement, server OS support is provided through your ProSupport for Software agreement.

Previewing the next level of performance

Dell, Microsoft and Intel are also partnering to improve overall system performance and lower latencies by putting more data closer to the processor on nonvolatile media. If you’re joining us this week at Microsoft Ignite, visit the Dell booth (#1100) to experience a Technology Preview of SQL VNext, based on Intel persistent memory. Learn how Intel persistent memory can enable greater operational ability and business continuity by remembering data after a power outage or planned IT maintenance.
