Vendors vs. internal platform teams. What’s the difference between a good vendor and a good internal team building you those abstractions? Platform teams fill the gap that’s left, and I don’t think they’ll go away. This space keeps shifting as we build better tools, but it isn’t going anywhere.

They have an infrastructure team based in the UK and two application teams based in Australia and Singapore. They are an AWS shop, currently deploying with ECS , RDS , and ELB which the application teams helped stand up before the infrastructure team was hired.

Azure has Application Insights, and AWS has CloudWatch Application Insights. AWS Parameter Store (for managing and loading environment secrets). Vulnerability management is just one area where CI/CD acts as a force multiplier for development teams. Put them to good use.

Bugs and failures happen because teams build against a staging or development environment and then find upon deployment that the production environment is out of sync, which leads to a time-consuming investigation of why and what is missing. Environment drift becomes an expensive business waste.
