The energy is infectious. There’s also a strong debugging culture. For me, it’s the emphasis on the social aspects of engineering, despite this being a very engineering and product-driven company. At some previous companies, demos were a semi-skippable event where you were unsure of the value of the feature.

Our existing deploy tooling and engineering culture made the transition to remote work go much more smoothly. Though our deploy velocity remained the same, the engineering org has been far from stagnant. No Q4 code freezes for us.

Departments or teams can burn through an infinite amount of energy re-litigating these decisions with stakeholders if the exec team doesn’t tell the story of these tradeoffs from above and make clear that the avenue for strategy concerns is mostly up, not sideways.
