Annoy is a library written by me that supports fast approximate nearest neighbor queries. Say you have a high (1-1000) dimensional space with points in it, and you want to find the nearest neighbors to some point. Annoy gives you a way to do this very quickly. It could be points on a map, but also word vectors in a latent semantic representation or latent item vectors in collaborative filtering.

On Tuesday, June 30, 2015, vandals cut three fiber-optic cables in an underground vault In Alameda, CA, near San Francisco, causing a blackout in phone and Internet services for several cities and thousands of businesses and homes that lasted for nearly 19 hours while repairs were made. This was the latest in a string of such attacks; there have been at least 11 over the last year, with the suspected first happening on July 6, 2015.

The workflow engine battle has intensified with some more interesting entries lately! Here are a couple I encountered in the last few days. I love that at least two of them are direct references to Luigi! Airflow (Blog Post) ( GitHub ). Airflow from Airbnb is probably the most interesting one. I’ve only glanced at it, but here are some very superficial notes.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Coca-Cola has named Alan Boehme as CTO: Mr. Boehme has led Coke’s enterprise architecture, innovation and emerging technologies for the past four years. During that time, he has guided the company’s strategy “to arm Coca-Cola for the future, including new platforms, cloud-based solutions and an aggressive yet flexible approach to enterprise security to position our company for growth,” according to a memo from CIO Ed Steinike, reviewed by CIO Journal.
